01 / OverviewIncident Investigator

Effective incident investigation is a key activity of SMS and essential to companies that want to understand their internal risks and safety performance. The effective investigation and analysis of incidents can lead to direct improvements in a company's operations.

The Incident Investigator course teaches the essential elements of safety incident investigation in the context of an aviation SMS. It first teaches students to identify events that may contain significant risks; the focus then shifts to preparing for and conducting an investigation, and concludes with analysing the findings and communicating the outcomes.

Exercises provide practical training in key elements — for example identifying causal factors — with completed examples as reference.
