The Maritime Restricted Radio Operator Certificate (MRROC) is the minimum licence Maritime New Zealand requires for commercial users of maritime radios.

This course delivers the essential skills required and prepares you for oral examination by a Radio Spectrum Examiner. We arrange the examination on completion of the online course — the assessment fee is included.

Who should attend

Anybody working onboard a commercial vessel operating marine radios in New Zealand, regardless of vessel size or operating limits. It is illegal to operate a marine VHF or MF/HF radio without an appropriate operator's certificate, except in genuine distress, urgency or safety situations.

Regulatory context: Maritime Rules Part 43 (Radio) and the Radiocommunications Act 1989.
