Study start marks the beginning of guided self-directed study. The 4-week block course and MNZ oral exam follow.
Train locally in Marlborough. Phase 1 is completed at home or at work, and the 4-week block course is held in Picton. The 4-week block course keeps time away from work and family to a minimum.
The NZ Certificate in Domestic Maritime Operations (Level 4) is the Maritime NZ approved training course for the SRL licence. Phase 1 is 19 weeks of self-directed study with weekly tutor support. Phase 2 is a 4-week intensive block course combining classroom theory and practical onboard training. Outstanding MNZ Training Record Book tasks are completed and signed off during the block course and before the MNZ oral exam.

The first Picton intake starts on Monday 23 November 2026, with the 4-week block course running 5 April – 30 April 2027. The second starts on Monday 29 March 2027, with the 4-week block course running 23 August – 17 September 2027.
The block course is 4 weeks, following 19 weeks of guided self-directed study. The MNZ oral exam is arranged at the end of the block course.
